This policy explains what personal data Savvy esl collects, what we do with it, and the rights you have. We keep it to what the site actually does.
Who is responsible for your data
Savvy esl is run by Paula Green, a self-employed professional based in France, who is the “data controller”. You can reach us at info@savvyesl.com. Our full details are in the legal notice.
What we collect, and why
- Your account. Your email address and a password (we never see your password; our sign-in provider stores it in protected form), your subscription status, and your Stripe customer and subscription reference numbers. We use these to run your account and give you access to the library. Legal basis: performing our contract with you.
- Payments. Card payments are handled entirely by Stripe. We never receive or store your full card number. We receive confirmation that you have paid, your billing email and your subscription status. We keep invoices and payment records for as long as French accounting law requires. Legal basis: contract and legal obligation.
- The quiz. If you take the “Does your English match your expertise?” quiz, we store your email address, your answers and your result so we can show you your result and understand who the quiz helps. Legal basis: your consent, which you give when you submit your email.
- The lesson planner. The details you type are sent to our AI provider, Anthropic, to produce your recommendation. Please do not type learners’ names or employers. We ask the AI to strip any names and companies before anything is saved, and we never store your raw text. What we keep is structured information (such as level and profession) and an anonymised summary, so we can see which lessons teachers need. To stop one visitor using the tool too many times in a day, we also keep a one-way scrambled version of your IP address that changes daily and cannot be linked from one day to the next. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in running a free tool and preventing abuse.
- “Email me this plan”. If you ask for your plan by email, we store your email address with that request and send you the email. If you tick the box for updates, we may also email you about new lessons, and you can unsubscribe at any time. Legal basis: your consent.
- Messages to us. If you write to info@savvyesl.com, we keep your message and our reply so we can help you. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in answering you.
- Technical data. Like any website, our hosting provider records technical information such as your IP address and browser type in server logs, for security and to keep the site running. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in security.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal data. We use a small number of providers who process it on our behalf:
- Supabase: database and sign-in (data stored in the European Union).
- Vercel: website hosting.
- Stripe: payments.
- Anthropic: the AI that writes planner recommendations.
- Resend: sends the plan emails you request.
Some of these companies are based in the United States. Where your data is transferred outside the European Economic Area, we rely on safeguards recognised by EU law, such as the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep it
- Account data: for as long as you have an account. If you ask us to delete it, we delete or anonymise it, except records we must keep by law (such as invoices, which French law requires us to keep for ten years).
- Quiz and email-plan contacts: until you ask us to delete them or unsubscribe, and in any case no longer than three years after our last contact with you.
- Anonymised planner records: kept, because they no longer identify anyone.
- Messages to us: for as long as needed to deal with your request, then deleted within a reasonable time.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- ask what personal data we hold about you, and get a copy;
- have inaccurate data corrected;
- have your data deleted;
- ask us to restrict how we use your data, or object to it;
- receive your data in a portable format; and
- withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on it (this does not affect what we did before).
To use any of these rights, write to info@savvyesl.com with “Privacy request” in the subject. We may need to confirm it is really you. If you think we have handled your data badly, you can also complain to the French data protection authority, the CNIL (cnil.fr), or to the authority in your own country.
Cookies
We only use the cookies the site needs to work, mainly to keep you signed in. We do not use advertising or analytics cookies. See the cookies page.
Security
We use trusted providers, encrypted connections and strict access controls, and keep the personal data we hold to the minimum the site needs. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable care to protect your data.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top and, where appropriate, tell members by email.
